Dear OWSC Members,
As we near the end of another memorable season, I'm thrilled to share some exciting news that will elevate our club experience to new heights!
Over the past several years, our staff and board of directors have been exploring local indoor athletic facility options that can accommodate our growing membership and programming. While we have loved our past five years in Mound, we have outgrown the space our current facility can provide.
As you may know, indoor athletic space in this local area is scarce, and area school districts and cities have no near-term plans to meet this community need. So, after careful consideration and planning, we have successfully purchased the sports dome in Long Lake. This will serve as our official indoor training ground and club headquarters.
The facility purchase marks a significant milestone for our growing community-based soccer club, reflecting our commitment to providing the best experience we can to our members. We are incredibly excited about the opportunities this new space will offer our players, coaches, and community partners. Operating the site allows OWSC players to continue soccer development during the winter, and provides space for other sports organizations, school teams, and community groups to use the time we don't occupy.
While the facility requires some renovations and upgrades to meet our standards, we see this as an opportunity to create a space uniquely tailored to our needs. We will be embarking on several projects and improvements over the next several months to get the dome ready for the upcoming winter season. Here are some of the planned improvements:
Our immediate focus will be on projects and operational updates to prepare for the first indoor season, but it is also crucial to look ahead and plan strategically for the future. One significant aspect of our long-term strategy involves capital development that will help us keep our programming affordable for members, fund larger necessary improvements and repairs, ensure the ongoing fiscal and operational health of our non-profit organization, and expand the impact we can have in the communities we serve. We understand the importance of having a safe, functional facility that our members can be proud of. Your support and patience during this transition are greatly appreciated as we work diligently to bring these plans to fruition.
We invite you to attend our 2024 Annual General Meeting on Monday, July 15th, from 5 to 7 PM in the parking lot of the sports dome (2465 W. Wayzata Blvd, Long Lake) to hear more about this exciting step forward.
Thank you for being a valued member of our soccer club. Together, we are shaping a bright future for our players, teams and community.
Best regards,
OWSC Staff & Board of Directors
Members of the OWSC community will be gathering on Saturday, October 26th for the third annual All Hallows' Eve 3V3 soccer tournament. This isn’t your traditional 3v3 tournament – the teams are a mix of adults and kids of all ages that are randomly drawn from a hat and put one teams such as Liverghoul and Booventus. Oh, and everyone is wearing Halloween costumes! It’s mostly just for fun, as you can imagine, but there is some good soccer being played, too! Here are the details:
