The schedule below is preliminary. Times & field locations may change leading up to tryouts. We anticipate the dates will remain the same.
We can only guarantee team placement offers to players who register for Tryouts. If a player does not register for Tryouts, the player will not be factored into roster decisions. If your player cannot attend Tryouts, they must register & indicate they are not attending during the registration process. If a player registers but does not attend Tryouts, they will be offered a roster spot. However, evaluators will not have data inputs from Tryouts to help influence the placement decision.
Tryout dates early in the year to help you plan as best as possible. All players must register for tryouts in order to be given a place on a team, regardless of whether the player can attend.
Registering for, and attending, our tryouts does not bind a player to our club. Tryouts help us form teams with players of similar soccer abilities. Teams formed with similar abilities allow us to individualize training activities to meet player needs, improve game day performance, and adequately challenge players. It is our belief that all players have the chance to succeed, grow and enjoy the game as a life long skill. Playing above or below one’s level can lead to frustration or boredom. Please help support the Orono Westonka Soccer Club program by supporting your child – whatever level he or she is placed at.
Team placement decisions include several factors, including:
Players are evaluated not only during tryouts but throughout the year, by team coaches and directors. Information provided in end of the season evaluations and directors evaluation are all taken into consideration when forming teams. This process provides a better view of players and helps OWSC place players appropriately.
At tryouts, evaluators will be scoring players based on the four pillars of player development - Technical, Tactical, Physical & Mental.
T E C H N I C A L:
Refers to the “hard skills” of the game, categorized under passing, dribbling, shooting, tackling, & control
TACTICAL:
How the technical skills are implemented, organized under attacking & defending principles
M E N TA L:
The emotional & cognitive tools a player uses to interact with the game & team environment
P H Y S I C A L:
The athletic qualities of the game, falling under the categories of speed, strength, endurance & coordination
The goal is to have players play with their US Club Soccer age guidelines.
All players must attend tryouts at their own age group. You can reference the Birth Year chart here.
If it is decided by the Director(s) that a player is significantly hindered in his/her growth and development due to a lack of challenge in their current age group a player may be considered for a skill based play-up.
At times, the club may also consider an administrative 'play up' when age groups are intentionally combined due to competitive level, or to complete a roster and field a full team.
